Book: “Neu Sex” by Sasha Grey

Sasha Grey‘s name is notorious for the particular brand of pornographic films in which she has starred over the past five years. However, the 23 year old managed a stunning cross-over from the hardcore porn industry to mainstream acting and modelling. After winning several AVN Awards (the Oscars of porn), she was featured in Steven Soderbergh’s “The Girlfriend Experience”. Soon afterwards she was invited to play a recurring character in HBO’s “Entourage” and her mainstream film career appears to have momentum. With her new book “Neu Sex“, she has crossed another boundary and entered the world of fine art photography.

Published by Vice Books in March of this year, “Neu Sex” marks Grey’s movement from being in front of the camera to behind it. “I started taking a camera with me to capture my experiences on set,” she explains, “so it was a moment in time, a memory for myself—not the video that would be seen by thousands of people… There are so many photos of me, taken by other people, that aesthetically I have no control over. Documenting myself allows me to reflect on the day, on the feelings I am having at that second. When you work in the entertainment industry, there are always surprises; there certainly isn’t one day that is similar to the last. Personally, it’s important to embrace this and appreciate it every day.”

Now on a book-signing tour, Grey and her work are appearing at galleries across the United States. This week she was at Martha Otero Gallery in Los Angeles (where the image below was shot).
