June 18th, 2012 7:00pm - June 18th, 2012 9:00pm
Join the Ministry for an intimate evening of magic and creativity with artist Souther Salazar at Narwhal Art Projects.

Born and based in rural California, artist Souther Salazar is best known for his sweet and whimsical mixed-media images of imaginary worlds filled with colour, texture and wonder. Using a variety of materials and found objects, Salazar builds up his works in layers in a mode of storytelling that encourage viewers to dream up their own narratives of vibrant exploration and whirlwind adventures. Refreshingly attractive to adults and loved by kids, his fantastical worlds are brought to life through collages, paintings, drawings, sculptures and installations. Buzzing with life and populated by charming characters, these works are a joy to behold. A graduate of the Art Centre College of Art and Design in Pasadena, Salazar is represented in New York City by Jonathan Levine Gallery.

Salazar brings his signature aesthetic to Narwhal Art Projects in an exhibition sure to be filled with mystical castles, impossible bridges, gummy robots, giant insects, tie-dye skies, cute dinosaurs and fairy princesses. Members are invited to meet at Narwhal Art Projects' new space in the Junction neighbourhood of Toronto for a tour of Salazar's solo exhibition. The artist will be in attendance and a question and answer period will follow his explanation of the exhibition and description of his creative process.

Kristin Weckworth of Narwhal Art Projects will also attend and speak about her organization's commitment to make art accessible to all and efforts to build engaging relationships between artists and the community.
